Fat Harvesting

Harvesting for fat transfer is done using a type of liposuction known as tumescent liposuction. Tumescent liposuction uses local anesthesia. This local anesthetic is referred to as tumescent fluid and is pumped into the area we wish to harvest. The entire procedure is done with the patient awake, usually under a mild sedative. Any area of body fat can be used. Some of the more commonly harvested areas are:

  • Abdomen and “love handles” (the sides of the abdomen or flanks)
  • Knees and inner thighs
  • Saddlebags (Outer thighs )
  • Arms, mostly commonly the back of the arms

After the area is anesthetized locally, liposuction is performed in the area to harvest the fat. In our office, we typically then go over the area harvested using a SmartLipo laser in order to get good skin tightening and texture post harvest.
